Are you one of those Apple fans who want to stay in the Apple ecosystem without burning a hole in your pocket? I do understand you because I was in the same place a month ago.
I was seriously considering the iPhone 16e, but a colleague recommended just the iPhone 15, and that was it. I checked it and changed my mind. Now, I question why the iPhone 16e exists in the first place. I know it would be a new iPhone for 600 bucks, but there were better things out there for a more affordable price point.
Anyway, the iPhone 15 and the 16e are both almost similarly priced, so I decided to create this brief guide for people looking to upgrade their iPhone without investing way too much.
Do you want to know more details about it? Yes? Great, let’s talk about that in detail.
iPhone 15 vs iPhone 16e: The Performance
If you were expecting iPhone 15 to outperform the iPhone 16e, you’ll be disappointed.
iPhone 16e comes with a better chipset and 2 gigs of more RAM than the iPhone 15. It is powered by Apple A18 as compared to the iPhone 15’s A16 Bionic. Does that mean it performs better?
It certainly does, but the thing is that the difference is negligible and you won’t even notice until you start to nitpick. For review purposes, I asked my office mate to lend his iPhone 16e while he was washing his car in my garage. I already had my iPhone 15. I did multitasking on both, played multiplayer games, and did some video editing.
To give both phones a fair front, I connected them both to my high-speed AT&T Internet, which is known for its network reliability and top-notch AT&T customer service. The results?
I honestly couldn’t see a difference, but I have seen people reviewing and spotting some differences. Anyhow, I will leave it up to you. But if you’d be buying iPhone 16e merely for great performance, don’t expect huge differences here, but in other departments like cameras.
iPhone 15 vs iPhone 16e: The Cameras
Let’s start with the specs first, and then I will move on to the real-life tests of their cameras.
iPhone 15 has a dual camera setup at the back with one main 48MP main shooter and the other being an ultrawide lens of 12MP. On the other hand, iPhone 16e only has a 48MP main shooter and no ultrawide lens. As for the front, both have an identical 12MP selfie camera.
How do they perform in real life?
Whether it’s taking landscape pictures or making videos of your moving pet, they are great. The two aspects where the iPhone 15 outshines the iPhone 16e are its versatility and night photography.
Even though both main cameras look the same on paper, there is a difference between them. iPhone 15’s main shooter is bigger and lets more light in. That is why it is great when it comes to night photography. Also, since it has more lenses (talking about the ultrawide lens here), it can take different shots. The landscape photos through that ultrawide lens look super stunning and make the camera versatile.
As for the videos and selfie camera, the real-life performance is almost similar. They look good and better than most smartphones that you can get today.
All in all, if you want an affordable iPhone with great cameras, go with the iPhone 15.
iPhone 15 vs iPhone 16e: The Battery
This is where the iPhone 15 will be overpowered by the iPhone 16e. Why? Let me explain that.
The first reason would be the chipset: iPhone 16e is powered by the A18 chipset that is based on 3nm transistors, making it more efficient. And when the processor is efficient, the whole phone becomes more efficient and consumes less battery. The A16 Bionic chipset in iPhone 15 is based on 4nm transistors.
Plus, the iPhone 16e has more battery life in it as compared to the underwhelming 3300mAh of the iPhone 15. iPhone 16e has around 4000mAh battery, and that makes it last longer.
Another reason that makes the iPhone 16e battery better than the iPhone 15 is that the iPhone 15 is an older phone, and you’d be lucky to find battery health above 95%.
The only department where the iPhone 15 outshines the 16e is its wireless charging capability because the iPhone 16e doesn’t have any wireless charging.
Now, let’s address the elephant in the room: which one should you buy? You might already know my answer: the iPhone 15. It offers more value and costs less, so it’s definitely the iPhone 15 for me.
